Day 32 (02/07/11) Mongu

Ok so last night I was tired and grumpy (although I didn’t realise it until I was falling asleep during a film) so I didn’t get around to writing this. As its now about 8 o’clock on day 33 and lots happened today I’m gonna make this post short. Also not much happened yesterday (it was a bit of a repeat of the previous day, I could almost say “see day 31 for details). We have lots we need to get done for our project work and time is rapidly running out to get it done. So the day was passed doing more surveying and drawing. Sr. Cathy came around and gave us another mineful of information (she’s like a human encyclopaedia). She then gave us a lift down to the Cheshire Homes for lunch, in the back of the truck again (such a cool fun way to travel). Dinner was unbelievably nice smelling fish (which wasn’t my favourite choice but hey). However they also brought out 3 chicken fillets for those that don’t eat fish (me). It was another amazing dinner. After dinner Sr. Cathy said “do you like rape” (sorry what did you just say rape, yes she did, not the question you ever expected a nun to say). Fortunately she was not talking about forcefully having your way with someone, but a vegetable also called rape (what an awful name for a vegetable). We told her we hadn’t heard of us so she promised to get us some rape soon. We then went outside to play with some of the kids in the centre. Unlike Kaoma, in Mongu the Cheshire Homes is a rehab centre for sick, injured and disabled children. We were playing with some of the kids not realising some were very physically disabled. After holding kids for a while we went to put some down only to realise they couldn’t stand. It was a whole different experience to playing with the Kaoma kids. Once back I did some more drawing while Áine and Jamie went to mass (I decided to pass on spending and hour in excruciating boredom). When they got home we decide to watch a film. We were getting tired of watching films on small screens so instead decided to try and use the TV and DVD player with a USB input. The socket behind the TV doesn’t work (like alot of the sockets here, they’re “shit Chinese ones” according to Sr. Cathy). So after an effort to stretch extension leads and TV cables to finally get them precariously plugged in we turned on the DVD player. We tried to find the film “Catch Me If You Can” but could only find “Full Metal Jacket” and some pictures of windmills from near “Alan Kerins House” that we thought we had deleted off the USB. We tried numerous times to delete the film and the windmills but the DVD player would only play them. It was weird it was like a possessed DVD player (we’re gonna try again tonight with a different USB and if those windmills appear I’ll scream). So we watched the film (we choose Old School instead because we were all in a giggly mood after the DVD player problems) on Dan’s Mac, with me falling asleep throughout only waking to take phone calls from home (some very tipsy people on the phone). Once the film ended I hoped into bed and tried but miserably failed to write this blog. So that was that day a bit more detailed than I expected. So long.
