Day 9 (9/6/11) Kaoma

So today was pretty much groundhog day. We were up at six to go to the same school for another workshop. Today we were in grade 9 (yesterday it was grade 8). We were shown the way to the school today by an American women called Pat (who was 1 third Irish and wants to visit her ancestors home, anyone else smell that smell of plastic shamrocks burning, aren’t all Americans at least some way Irish). The workshops today were different cause all 4 of us were in the one room but we only had 3 laptops and no projector. Today however worked out much better than yesterday, the kids got really involved. One disaster did happen however I was explaining to the kids how water filters work, and to do this I had a bottle full of water mixed with mud in my hand and I asked if any of the kids wanted to drink it to which they said no. I moved on but still had the bottle in my hand when next I felt thirsty, so I opened the lid and took a drink without realising. Áine had to point out my mistake. After the workshops we went for another game of soccer but today was much different. Despite some early goals by Collins, Morley & Stewart and some fine saves by Hester we eventually lost but about 5 goals due in large part to just 3 kids with skill and pace that I (and Trappetoni’s boring benal team of Doncaster Rovers reserves) could only dream of. One kid called Mwebena rang rings around us (until Jamie pushed him over) and scored a hatrick (cue Man City spending £30 million on him). It is amazing the way about 250 kids are playing and each kid only gets a few small touches of the ball but they don’t get bored they seem delighted to be just playing (unlike Ireland where if a kid doesn’t have things their own way, some 7 year old doesn’t understand the offside rule, they eventually sulk off the pitch saying “I’m going home and it’s my ball so I’m taking it home with me). In the evening we had to complete a survey of Judith House (one of the orphanages. It should have been easy but nothing matched up it got so annoying me and Dan decide use educated guesses (ah after all its the Irish way). There has been many things that have happened recently that we said “that has to be in the blog” but I always forget about them. If I ever remember them I may write them down at a later date. So I'm gonna get some sleep (cause I’ m so tired I could fall asleep in a cage full of naked women, beer and chocolate (oh the stereotypes). So good night.
