So we’ve arrived in Lusaka the capital of Zambia, however today was anything but the stereotypical view of Africa. To get here it took about 17 hours of flying on 3 different planes on which I hardly slept (by the time I got into bed in Lusaka I’d been awake for almost 40hrs). The journey started (as most Irish peoples journey does) in Dublin airport after a couple of pints in Dublin with Dave Evans Jr. I got there early, a first for me, and waited for the others to arrive. After about a hour of reading Steig Larsson, Jamie arrived followed shortly by Áine. The 3 of us waited and waited on the hard cold steel benches of Terminal 2 while we waited for Dan who was apparently on a shuttle to the airport. We had tried to check in without him but the useless self check in machines informed us we needed Mr Collins passport. He eventually showed up and told us he had already checked in already somehow. This caused a considerable amount of hassle with our check in, the useless machines only printing half the boarding passes. The flights were long and tiring but KLM was the nicest flight I’ve ever been on food and drink were all complementary and there was so much of it I spent more time with the air host (is that the male version, maybe hostess would have sufficed as the guy was a bit of a fairy) than I have with some members of my family. When we landed in Nairobi we were told to make our way to Terminal 4 to fly to Lusaka. After struggling to find it we asked a very bored security guard who informed that Nairobi airport didn’t have a Terminal 4, Oh Shit! Eventually we boarded our 40 seat Kenya airlines plane at gate 5. 2 bumpy hours of flying later we were in Zambia.
