Day 5 (5/6/11), Kaoma

Ok to write a short blog on today (well it should be easier as we did dome engineering work today and even I couldn’t be arsed reading about that). We got up at 6 as planned (if you believe that your more gullible the OJ Simpson’s jury, more like 10). We made some breakfast, cornflakes with UHT milk (which was shite but not as bad a first feared) and then headed to Leonord House, another part of the orphanage across the road. Again we were surrounded by kids who came running when the saw us approaching “Mague, magua, magua”. We played with them for a bit (which is exhausting) and then tried to do some work. The dormitory the kids are staying in falling down and will be knocked when there is enough money for a new building. Our job was to check all the cracks (we got so many juvenile laughs out of this “let’s go measure some cracks”, “how big were your cracks”, “we put a pencil in our cracks to check how big they were”). Doing this proved to be a challenge as the kids followed us everywhere. It was so funny each time one of us walked around a corner there would be a line of kids following them like the pied piper. It’s not something you get used to, how affectionate the kids are. We then measured the buildings and fields around them with the kids help, they then robbed our pencils and tape measures and anything they could get their hands on. They are so cute and friendly (me using the word cute next I’ll be saying OMG) you don’t mind. After lunch we headed into town to buy some water and of course a bunch of kids followed us. I took out the Ukulele to get a picture on the main street (such an unusual place) and all the girls wanted a go. They were playing it the whole way back at which point the smaller kids wanted a go. They were playing away with it about 20 of them surrounded me while I held it and they hit the strings. When I had to leave for dinner went to lift up the uke and about five kids were lifted up to as they were holding on. The evening we spent doing things that bore engineers let alone the rest of the world. Only weird is the amount of bugs in our bathroom. There was one little orange frog sitting on the toilet seat all evening, he was weird he was see thru and tiny. Speaking of toilet the one in our bathroom is so small when you’re using it you feel like Gulliver taking a shit in Lilliput. Ok I need to read some Steig Larsson and you need to do what you need to do. Goodnight, Goodday or what good you want to feel.
